My fellow Americans, November 8th will be here before we know it. Time marches on. We still have much to discuss; please stay tuned.
As we approach November 8th, time is running out. We have to make our decisions, but we have to make them wisely. There are two concepts that I want you to keep in mind as you enter the voting booth on November 8th. The first is liberty. That ideal that we all cherish; the ideal of freedom, justice, the rule of law. Those things which our Constitution was meant to preserve and defend for us, we the people. Yet what has happened in our society and our government, is that we have been infected by something that George Washington called, ‘the spirit of the party.’ He warned about it in his farewell address, not just the geographic parties of one state against another, but the rise of the party system in America.
These are George Washington’s words in his farewell address, “The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism.” George Washington warned that simply having parties is a form of despotism, because it causes one faction, one party, to seek domination and revenge against the other.
Now does that sound familiar to this election at all? Does that sound at all like the Republican Party seeking domination and control over the Democratic Party? Or the Democratic Party seeking domination and control over the Republican Party? Through leaks, through continuing to be too cozy with the press? These are the things that the party spirit actually encourages. And when we vote for either of these parties, this is what we as American’s encourage. This is the dangerous time for this country in this election because we are choosing to maintain domination, despotism and tyranny, by the two party system by not making a rational choice.
You see neither party really seeks to rule America as servants. Rather both parties seek domination, control, so they can exert their power over we, the people. How do I know this? Just look over the past several administrations and it doesn’t matter – Republican or Democrat makes no difference. Both have exceeded the authority of the Constitution with things like executive orders, through passing legislation that go well beyond what the Constitution allows, which breaks the promise given to we, the people, to uphold and defend the Constitution. No, it makes no difference which party you vote for, both seek the same thing — to tyrannize America, to keep us in subservience, to make themselves rulers over us.
George Washington went on to say, “The disorders and miseries which result [that is that result from the two party system where one seeks domination over the other.] The disorders and miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual…” We are treading dangerously close to those days, and it really doesn’t matter which party you look at, either one seeks to push forward the idea that their party nominee is the one who can save mankind. Their party nominee is the one that will give us security, that will give us relaxation and repose. Just give them the authority, give them the power. But think, dear friends, give them whose power? Give them your power, give them my power, as American citizens.
There is a story in the bible of two brothers, one older, the other younger. The younger brother is working in the house. He is actually making a stew. The older brother is working outside, and he comes in tired, famished, absolutely exhausted. He feels like he is going to die because he is hungry. As a result he asks his younger brother for a bowl of stew. The younger brother refuses and says no. The older brother says I’m starving, I’m going to die, give me some strew. The younger brother says absolutely, I will give you some of my stew in exchange for your birthright. You see in the ancient world the older brother received more of the inheritance then the younger, it was called the birthright. And so the younger brother was scheming, conniving in order to take from the older brother his birthright, his inheritance under the law. The older brother simply said, “I’m so hungry I’m going to die and so what good is my birthright to me because I’m going to be dead.” So he made the exchange for a small bowl of stew, which probably really did him no good in the long run. He sold his birthright. He despised what he had been given in that government in that area because he felt he had no choice.
Dear friends, you and I have a choice. You and I have multiple choices on the ticket that don’t have anything to do with the major two parties, yet many of us will choose to sell our birthright of liberty – to sell our birthright of freedom, justice and the American way – for a bowl of stew. For a government that will continue to rise over us to usurp authority and cause us to be trampled under foot. It makes no difference dear friends, vote for Trump, vote for Clinton, it makes no difference, both are those despots seeking control over us.
As George Washington said, “sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty.” Dear friends, do not let your liberty be trampled under foot by those who seek to prevail over us. Make a wise choice! Choose freedom. Choose justice. Choose the person who will keep within bounds the federal government, keep within bounds his own ability to make choices and keep his oath of office that he will swear on January 20th. There is still more to say, stay tuned.
